Canada’s Capital Region — At today’s announcement of a new chairperson for the National Capital Commission (NCC), made by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Ms. Micheline Dubé, Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, welcomed Mr. Russell A. Mills to the NCC, and made the following remarks.
“On behalf of the entire organization, I welcome today’s announcement and congratulate Mr. Russell A. Mills for his appointment as chairman of the National Capital Commission’s board of directors. Mr. Mills brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will be beneficial not only to the National Capital Commission’s work, but also to the entire Capital region.

We’ve always said at the NCC that we’ve had the right chairperson at the right time. Mrs. Jean Pigott, for example, was behind the expansion of the NCC mandate in 1988, to include the programming component, making the NCC responsible for planning, building and animating the Capital region.
Mr. Marcel Beaudry brought business acumen to the organization during a time of fiscal restraint, program review and commercialization.
And now, Mr. Russell Mills joins us as chair, and he too will deal with a new set of challenges and, particularly, will help us establish new relationships with our many stakeholders.
We have many great projects and programs currently under way, as well as long-term plans that provide a vision for many decades to come, and we certainly look forward to sharing them with you.
I am confident that you will quickly recognize that the NCC is a well managed, strong organization comprised of a highly skilled, diverse and forward-thinking group of employees. We continue to build a great Capital that is representative of and relevant to Canadians here in the National Capital Region, and across the country.
Serving the country for over 100 years, the NCC is a recognized leader in planning, building, animating and promoting
Today’s announcement is an important step in the renewal of the NCC, following the government’s review of its mandate. We look forward to working with Mr. Mills to continue to build a national capital that inspires Canadians with pride. Welcome to the NCC.”
